Opportunities From: Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry

-On Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Grocery Store Distribution Days) the Volunteer Admin is direct support to the Grocery Store Check in Process as well as ensuring that Neighbors who are new to the pantry get correctly signed in to Zap In so that they will be seen by the Intake Coordinator.

-Office task (answering phones and greeting program participants)

-Making copies, data entry, making phone calls or assisting with mailings.

-Directing program participants on where to go.

-Volunteers are needed to help unload the Food Pantry truck with their weekly CTFB order of food.   Boxes of items are moved from the truck into the various buildings.   Cold items are moved from the boxes into the coolers.

-Volunteers will assist the Program Manager with the distribution of a 30-35 lb box of food to all qualifying Seniors.  This will include being able to lift a 30lb box of food repetitively in order to assist the Senior with placing this box in their vehicle.

- Once complete, please allow time at the end of your shift to clean your work station, including sweeping, discarding trash or spoilage, or sanitizing your work station.

Community Market happens on Thursday mornings only and is open to anyone within the Bastrop County community.  It is a smaller, select distribution of refrigerated or frozen food and bread.

-Shopping Guides are needed to support the neighbor in understanding what the selection of food is and what quantity is available to them.  Shopping Guides will be assigned to specific stations vs taking the neighbor all the way through the shopping experience from start to finish.

-Shopping Guides may also assist in check-out process which includes weighing and inputting weights into our Food Bank Manager system, in a computer.

Community Market happens on Thursday mornings only and is open to anyone within the Bastrop County community.  It is a smaller, select distribution of select refrigerated or frozen food.

-Greeter will need to be able to work with an ipad to monitor and manage the flow of neighbors into the store. 

-The Grocery Store Manager will be available to support this process.

Volunteer will work with the Development Associate to engage with the community and share BCEFP resources.   Volunteer will also support an activity with children. Volunteer will stay to help take down our set up.

Volunteers will work on processing donations

- Inspecting food and checking for date coding to confirm that it is still safe to distribute.

- Move food that is past safe to consume date to spoilage.

- Cleaning and sanitizing all products

- Dating donated food - Sorting and Stocking donated food

- Once complete, please allow time at the end of your shift to clean your work station, including sweeping, discarding trash or spoilage, or simply sanitizing your work station.

A volunteer picks up "rescued" food from HEB in Bastrop and delivers it to the Bastrop Food Pantry.  The volunteer would have to use their own vehicle.

-Valid drivers license required.

-Mid-sized sedans, pick-up trucks, SUV and vans are needed to adequately support this pick-up process.

-Able to carry 20-30 lbs.  Requires training on food safety standards for transporting and maintaining correct temperatures along with correct placement of the "rescued" food inside the pantry.

-Good communication and social skills.

A volunteer picks up "rescued" food from HEB in Elgin (1080 US 290, Elgin Tx) and delivers it to the Bastrop Food Pantry. 

-The volunteer would have to be able to drive the pantry box truck.

-Start time can vary, but pick up should be complete by 11am.

-Valid drivers license required.

-Able to carry 25-35 lbs.

-Good communication and social skills.

Volunteers assemble 200+ emergency food bags for BISD students.

This consists of:

Placing approximately 10-12 items in bags and then placing 10 bags in each tote.

Breakdown and clean-up at the end of the shift.- Once complete, please allow time at the end of your shift to clean your work station including breaking down and disposing of all cardboard, sweeping, discarding trash and spoilage, or simply sanitizing your work station.  

Pantry Express Volunteer Admin is direct support to the Grocery Store Check in Process as well as ensuring that Neighbors who are new to the pantry get correctly signed in to Zap In so that they will be seen by the Intake Coordinator.   The Admin Volunteer will be responsible for all incoming phone calls during the Pantry Express shift.   The Pantry Express Volunteer Admin will need to feel comfortable with multi-tasking and work closely with the Intake Coordinator, the Grocery Store Manager and the Inventory team.

-The Grocery Store Greeter will manage the flow of Neighbors into the store.   They will monitor and observe the status of the Neighbors' shopping and checking out.   The Greeter will determine when the next shopper can enter the store based on capacity guidelines. The Greeter will utilize an ipad that indicates the time that each Neighbor was checked in.  The Greeter will call Neighbors in on a first-come first-served basis, utilizing "check in" times.  Overall, the Grocery Store Greeter is responsible for maintaining an even flow of Neighbors through the store.

Pantry Express is a once a month evening shopping opportunity for neighbors that occurs on the first calendar Thursday of each month.  Each Volunteer Shopping Guide will offer a one on one experience of helping the neighbors select from Dry Grocery racks, as well as Refridgerated and Frozen food items .  Volunteer Guides will engage with the shopper, listen to their selections, retrieve the requested items, and place in the shopper's cart.   Volunteer Guides will utilize the signage on each rack, to assist the shopper in selecting the recommended quantities to best reach the allotted weight per household.   

Springfest - Children's Advocacy Center Saturday, April 18, 2026

An event recognizing Child Abuse Awareness Month, to teach kids about safe individuals and organizations

Our set-up will begin at 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Event: 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Two volunteers will be needed for this event, as it's 4+ hours of time.   

Volunteer Shifts are 9:30am-12:30pm and 12:30-3:30pm

Volunteers will engage with the community and support an activity with children.

Support is needed during setup and breakdown. BCEFP Development Associate will arrive by 9:30 am,  with early volunteer support to set-up the tent and table.

This shift is 3 Thursdays out of the month (2nd, 3rd and 4th).   The Volunteer will work with inventory team to specifically restock the Grocery Store after Community Market (mornings) takes place.  This is a physical role that involves working in the refrigerated walk-in cooler space and stocking the refrigerated units in the store.
